ALL ARE WELCOME! You BELONG at Beacon – Spiritually open and intentionally inclusive since 1958.
By now, most people probably know that one can be Jewish without being Zionist. Our service leader Rev Amy Zucker Morgenstern (via ZOOM, with Worship Associate Cassie Dakan) found that there was an irresolvable conflict between her Judaism and Zionism, at least by most definitions of the latter. To her joyful surprise, this realization helped her to connect more meaningfully with Judaism than she had for decades. The beauty of a post-Zionist Judaism, and the Jewish ethical teachings that lead us there, are the heart of today’s service. With music by the Beacon Choir under the direction of Michael Minear with accompaniment by Pete Garcia.
Rev. Amy Zucker Morgenstern is co-minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, Santa Rosa, CA, and formerly served with our congregations in Palo Alto, CA, Rutland, VT, and Middlebury, VT. She grew up in Connecticut in a Conservative Jewish family and synagogue. Amy is a DMin candidate in Theology and the Arts, and spends much of her time reading, exploring San Francisco with her wife, texting with their college-student daughter, and making art, some of which grapples with the tragedy of the genocide against Gaza.
