ALL ARE WELCOME! You BELONG at Beacon – Spiritually open and intentionally inclusive since 1958.

This Sunday, please join our Music Director, Michael Minear, Worship Associate Nancy Paxton, and our wonderful pianist Eli Diemert as we explore the power of music.

Since music has a unique ability to put us in touch with our emotions, it only makes sense that we dive into the music that has helped to construct some of our best-known hymns from Singing the Living Tradition and Singing the Journey. From exploring the Hyfrydol tune to the powerful civil rights era anthem “We Shall Overcome” to Sibelius’s symphony Finlandia, we will discuss why these melodies can such an effect on us and how we have used them to provide powerful levels of meaning to the lyrics they’ve been set to.

Please come prepared to sing, listen, and learn about the music in our hymnals. We’ll also have a children’s message exploring the widely known “Ah! Vous dirai-je, maman” melody, which has been set to so many favorite children’s songs like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,” the ABC song, and “Baa Baa Black Sheep.”
