Grades K – 5 (with many activities just right for preschoolers, too)
Dr. Seuss continues to teach us Life Lessons through his engaging stories. Join in any Sunday.

Our new program, Horton Hears A UU: Life Lessons from Dr. Seuss got off to a great start on January 12 with “Yertle the Turtle.” The affirmations from this story about listening and sharing are; “Everyone is important.”  “We have a say in things that are important to us.”

Upcoming Seussian life lessons (with reading, discussion, activities, and craft projects) will be:

February 9th
– “If I Ran the Zoo”
We’ll think about being a leader and making choices. We’ll create Imaginary Animals, Make Animal Masks, and Play Animal Charades.
Valentine’s Potluck after the service, too.

February 16th – “The Sneetches”
We’ll talk about inequality and judging others. We’ll write a poem together about fairness,
watch the 12 minute Sneetches video and Make Self Portraits!

February 23rd
“The Lorax”
We’ll explore why we need to protect the Earth.
We’ll work together to make Truffula Trees Mural and join in a “How I Can Help the Earth” Activity.

Grades 7 and 8 – “Building Bridges” resumes on February 9th

Stephanie and I are excited to be offering the study of Islam in February!  Our next class will be on Sunday, Feb 9 at Beacon at 10am.  Rev. Robin plans to talk with the kids on February 9 about what they have been learning in Building Bridges.  The hope is that this will develop into a service with Rev. Robin where the kids share their thoughts and feelings sometime this spring.  Stay tuned for details as they unfold.  Happy New Year, Dru Monroe (edrumonroe@gmail.com)

OUR WHOLE LIVES (OWL) IS COMING IN MARCH AND APRIL for our 7th and 8th graders.

Online Registration is now open!  Click here to register.

OWL is a widely- acclaimed real world sexuality education curriculum, developed jointly by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. OWL provides accurate, developmentally- appropriate information for youth. Topics include self-respect, relationships, gender identity, sexual orientation, healthy sexuality, consent, and cultural influences on sexuality. Classes are facilitated by dedicated Beacon members who have received training and certification through the UUA. Parents are the primary sexuality educators for their children, and this is a way our faith community supports parents in that effort, serving as a catalyst for healthy conversations at home.  Although developed by two progressive religious organizations, Our Whole Lives contains no religious references or doctrine.

OWL is open to the broader Flagstaff community of 7th and 8th graders.  Because of the nature of the material, parents are REQUIRED to attend an information session.)

Complete information and dates can be found on the OWL page on this website.
